Visit 1000 Islands

1000 Islands Region is absolutely beautiful. We enjoy coming up here whenever we have a chance. We usually camp on the Wellesley Island State Park during our stay for the Forth of July vacation. There are lots of things to do up here, and we hope you enjoy this area as much as we do!

We'll be listing our favorite things to do. Go to www.visit1000islands.com for a complete list of towns and activities!

Uncle Sam Boat Tour

Alexandria Bay, NY
We love going on the Uncle Sam's Boat Tour. We do it every year, especially for the 4th of July fireworks! We usually go on the Two-Nation Tour, which give you a deep overview of the history of the Thousand Islands Region, and you get to see the beautiful homes that resides on the islands. If time is a factor, go on the Millionaire's Row Tour, which still gives you the history but this tour focuses more on the "Millionaire Row" Section of the river. Both of these tours include going to the Boldt Castle. You can catch the shuttle back to Alexandria Bay at no cost. If you only want to go to the Boldt Castle, without all the tour, Uncle Sam also provide that at a cost. The rates are listed on their website.

Singer Castle

Dark Island, NY
We only visited Singer Castle once, during our hunt for a wedding ceremony and reception venue. The castle itself was magnificent, and the grounds are well kept and beautiful. Although not as big as the Boldt Castle, it certainly has its own charm. This castle is a little further up river, and you can get there by going through Uncle Sam's, either from Alexandria Bay on a tour, or from Shermerhorn Landing (7 miles north of Alexandria Bay) via a shuttle. Visit their website for the history of the castle.

Antique Boat Museum

Clayton, NY
We visited the Antique Boat Museum the first year we vacationed there together. There are many unique boats from all over the country displayed here - although mostly from New York. If you are lucky, you will be able to witness how a wooden boat was built as boat builder demonstrates the skill. While you are there, don't forget to tour the La Dutchess, the houseboat for George Boldt, and where the 1000 islands dressing was invented!

Aqua Zoo

It might not be the biggest aquarium you've ever been to, in fact, it probably is the smallest aquarium, but it is the only family own and operate aquarium in the United States!  You will meet the owner when you enter the aquarium and they will answer any questions you have regarding the sea life.  Don't miss the Snakehead in the giant tank while you are there!
